Dear Friends and Guests,
When Jake and I decided, a year ago, that we wanted to embark on a journey starting a business together, we had no destination in mind. We certainly did not see an inn on the horizon. But when we discovered the Wild Iris Inn, everything clicked into place and we knew we had found our home. Being innkeepers held the promise of all the things we sought in our journey and so we took the plunge.
There is so much we loved about this house, this inn, our home. Our predecessor did amazing work in making this a sustainable business and in establishing many great relationships with guests and local businesses. She made this home her own, with her own unique sense of decor and design. Now we feel it's our time to create an environment that reflects who we are.
Starting at the end of the month, Wild Iris Inn will reopen its doors as Mercury Inn. We're using non toxic paint from Mythic Paint, bringing in locally crafted and vintage furniture, and making small changes where we can to make the house even more sustainable. Mercury Inn will be a modern, sustainable house for travelers from all walks of life. We will continue our predecessor's dedication to sustainability and also bring a sharper focus on local-sourced, seasonal breakfasts. Further, we will seek to partner with local businesses to give our guests even more opportunities to experience the best of both Portland and the entire state of Maine.
Renovations are underway now, and we hope to have our new website up with photos of the refreshed rooms within the next few weeks. In the meantime, we are still taking reservations for February onward and are happy to speak with you about our changes to the inn and your stay here.
We thank you all so much for embarking with us on this journey and look forward to seeing you soon.
